Belfort quoted in “Republican” for Whistleblower Suit

Bennett & Belfort founding partner, David E. Belfort, was recently quoted in a Springfield Republican article about a whistleblower case filed on behalf of a B&B client, a medical professional against her former employer, a hospital. The case is currently pending in Suffolk Superior Court.

Attorney Belfort’s client, the employee-plaintiff, alleges that her employer terminated her for consistently flagging and reporting repeated safety violations in operating rooms. These safety issues and violations included resistance to utilizing safe pass trays to prevent accidental needle sticks during procedures, sanitization of operating rooms and failure to require attendance at regular safety meetings. The employee raised these and other concerns with the hospital’s president and escalated some of them to its parent company, but received no meaningful response.

The employee followed up with senior management and leadership about operating safety issues, and the hospital ultimately terminated the employee in retaliation for her complaints.

“This type of retaliatory termination cannot be allowed,” Belfort told the Republican. “Those who advocate for patients and staff should not have their lives upended, and their livelihoods threatened, for speaking up.”
